How Vetlantern handles your data
A plain-language description of what the app does with data. If something here is unclear or you think it is wrong, write to us.
In short
- Patient details never leave your device. The working patient, saved prescriptions and drafts are kept in your own browser and are not sent to Vetlantern.
- Vetlantern keeps a small account record for each registered veterinarian, so it can check council registrations and keep your saved tools.
- There are no advertising or analytics tools in the app, and no tracking cookies.
- You can download your data, clear your device or delete your account yourself, from your profile page.
What stays on your device
These are kept in your browser and are not sent to our server:
- The working patient you set in the top bar (species, weight, and optionally age, sex, allergies and current medicines). It stays in that browser tab only and is forgotten after four idle hours.
- Prescriptions you save, prescription drafts, saved vaccination records and other lists you keep in the app.
- Recent searches, the last tool you used and your colour theme.
- A saved copy of the tools and the drug index, so the app works with no signal.
Because they live only on your device, we cannot recover them for you, and deleting your account does not remove them from your other devices. Use Clear Data On This Device on each one.
What our server holds about you
When you register and use the app, the server keeps:
- Your profile: name, email, council registration number and state, practice type, and optionally your mobile number, clinic and a photo.
- The council certificate you upload to prove your registration, in private storage.
- Your sign-in. Your password is passed to our sign-in provider to be checked and is never stored by Vetlantern.
- Your saved tools, your clinic drug list (the preferred brands and prices you enter) and the time of your last sign-in.
- Feedback you send about a tool or a product, and product suggestions you send, including any label photos.
- Short-lived counters that limit repeated sign-in attempts, and a record of what administrators did (for example approving a registration).
- Server logs of errors, with the page address and a request number. They do not contain patient details.
Who can see it
- Vetlantern administrators see your registration details and certificate to approve your account, and read the feedback and suggestions you send.
- Our service providers handle it on our behalf: Supabase (database, file storage and sign-in), Vercel (hosting) and an email provider (the messages we send you, such as confirming your email).
- We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers.
Please do not put patient or owner names, phone numbers or other personal details in feedback or suggestions.
Cookies
Vetlantern sets two cookies, both needed for the app to work. Neither is used for tracking:
- A sign-in cookie that keeps you signed in on this device.
- A short-lived cookie that proves your email address was confirmed while you finish registering.
The app asks no cookie questions because it sets no other cookies. Your browser may also keep the lists described above in its own storage.
Your choices
On your profile page (My Profile, after you sign in):
- Download My Data: a file of everything the server holds about you.
- Clear Data On This Device: removes saved prescriptions, saved tools, drafts and the working patient from the device you are using.
- Sign Out Other Devices: ends your sign-in everywhere else.
- Delete My Account: removes your profile, certificate, sign-in, saved tools, clinic drug list, feedback and suggestions. You can register again later.
